Description

SCINEi Mentorship Programme

Building Connections. Creating Opportunities. Empowering the Next Generation.

Applications Open:
15 January 2027 – 5 March 2027

The SCINEi Mentorship Programme is a youth development initiative created to connect learners, encourage personal growth, and help young people discover opportunities beyond their current environments.

Launching in Mokopane, with a focus on learners from Mahwelereng Public Schools, the programme aims to create a supportive community where learners can connect with others, receive guidance, ask questions, and grow together.

The journey through school and into adulthood can be challenging. Many learners face uncertainty about their future, academic pressure, career decisions, confidence, and finding people they can talk to.

SCINEi believes that no learner should feel like they have to navigate these challenges alone.

About The Mentorship Programme

The SCINEi Mentorship Programme connects learners with mentors who can provide encouragement, guidance, and support.

For our first programme cycle, SCINEi will be accepting a limited number of participants to ensure meaningful connections and quality mentorship.

2027 Pilot Cohort:

  • 20 Mentors

  • 50 Mentees

The programme creates a safe space where learners can:

  • Build confidence and self-belief

  • Talk through challenges they experience

  • Receive guidance from someone who understands their journey

  • Learn about opportunities after high school

  • Explore different career paths and possibilities

  • Develop leadership and communication skills

  • Improve decision-making and problem-solving skills

  • Build positive relationships and support networks

  • Prepare for future academic and personal goals

This programme is not about financial rewards. It is about people giving their time, experiences, and knowledge to help another person grow.

A Mentorship Chain

The programme follows a learner-to-learner mentorship structure where guidance is passed forward.

University students (2nd year and above) mentor Grade 12 learners.

Grade 12 learners mentor Grade 10 learners.

Grade 11 learners mentor Grade 9 learners.

Grade 10 learners mentor Grade 8 learners.

Grade 9 learners mentor Grade 7 learners.

Grade 1st year university students and Grade 8 learners are not included as mentors because they are going through important transition periods and need time to adjust.

Every learner has someone ahead of them to guide them and someone behind them to encourage.

Senior Mentor Recruitment

SCINEi is also inviting senior mentors who are willing to volunteer their time, knowledge, and experiences to help guide young learners.

Senior mentors may include:

  • University students (2nd year and above)

  • Young professionals

  • Community leaders

  • Individuals passionate about youth development

Mentors are not joining for financial reward, but to contribute towards building a stronger, more connected generation.

AI Empowerment Programme

The second part of the SCINEi Mentorship Programme focuses on Artificial Intelligence (AI) empowerment.

Technology is changing the world, and young people need more than access to technology — they need the knowledge and skills to use it responsibly.

Through AI workshops and activities, learners will learn how to:

  • Use AI tools such as ChatGPT responsibly

  • Use AI to support studying and research

  • Ask better questions and think critically

  • Identify misinformation and unreliable information

  • Understand AI ethics, privacy, and responsible technology use

  • Explore opportunities created by technology

SCINEi believes that AI should not replace human connection. Instead, technology should be used to strengthen communication, creativity, learning, and community.

Workshops and Community Events

Throughout the year, SCINEi will host activities designed to bring learners together, including:

  • Leadership workshops

  • AI learning sessions

  • Career awareness sessions

  • Educational games and challenges

  • Community events

  • Innovation activities

  • Mentorship gatherings

These activities aim to create a community where learners can learn, connect, and grow beyond the classroom.
